10-Hydroxydecanoic Acid
Product Introduction
10-Hydroxydecanoic acid (10-HDA) is a saturated fatty acid of hydroxy-trans-2-decenoic acid (10H2DA).
Its molecule has two functional groups (-OH and -COOH). It has been reported to prevent the lipopolysaccharide-induced NO production in murine macrophages. Its polymerization with the polyethylene glycol-modified lipase in a transparent benzene solution has been reported to proceed by the formation of ester linkage.
The history of 10-Hydroxydecanoic acid in cosmetics is relatively recent, although its source, royal jelly, has been used for centuries in traditional medicine and skincare. Royal jelly has long been prized for its purported health benefits, and it wasn’t until modern scientific methods allowed for the isolation and identification of its individual components that 10-HDA was recognized for its unique properties. Researchers discovered that this specific fatty acid could offer significant benefits for skin health, leading to its incorporation into cosmetic products.

10-Hydroxydecanoic Acid is primarily known for its skin conditioning properties. This means it helps to maintain the skin in good condition by improving its appearance and texture.

When included in cosmetic formulations, this ingredient works to keep the skin soft, smooth, and hydrated. It can be particularly beneficial in products designed for dry or rough skin, as it aids in restoring suppleness and elasticity.
10-Hydroxydecanoic Acid is considered a good ingredient for skincare products targeting acne-prone or oily skin due to its ability to inhibit the growth of acne-causing bacteria and help control excess oil production. It can be beneficial in reducing acne breakouts and improving overall skin condition. However, as with any skincare ingredient, individual reactions may vary, and it's essential to patch-test new products containing this ingredient.
