Troxerutin
Product Introduction
Extracted from Sophora japonica flower, Troxerutin is a natural plant-sourced ingredient and is one of the derivatives of the flavonoid rutin. Troxerutin are used with the functions as an antioxidant when applied topically, scavenging free radicals and preventing oxidative stress. Troxerutin has gained significant attention in the cosmetic industry due to its multifaceted properties and potential benefits for skin health.
Troxerutin has better water solubility and better efficacy than rutin. Troxerutin benefits in cosmetics uses include strong absorption effect on blue light, anti-glycosylation ageing, anti-inflammation and soothing, sun protection, photoprotection, DNA protection, improving microcirculation and relieving oedema. Surprisingly, in addition to its photo-protective effect on the skin, it also has a photo-protective effect on the formulation system, the latter of which solves the problem that the actives are easily discolored by the light in the formulation and greatly facilitates the application of the formulation.

Troxerutin demonstrates a wide range of functions and applications in the cosmetic industry. With its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, collagen-stimulating, anti-pigmentation, and sun protection properties, Troxerutin holds immense potential for improving skin health and addressing various aesthetic concerns.
What effects does Troxerutin have?
•Antioxidant and Anti-Inflammatory Effects:
Troxerutin exhibits strong antioxidant properties, which play a vital role in protecting the skin against oxidative stress, caused by reactive oxygen species (ROS). Troxerutin can scavenge free radicals and inhibit lipid peroxidation, safeguarding the skin from damage induced by UV radiation and environmental pollutants. Its anti-inflammatory effects have also been observed through the inhibition of pro-inflammatory mediators, such as cytokines and enzymes, contributing to improved skin health. Topical application of a Troxerutin-containing cream on human skin resulted in a significant reduction in oxidative damage and inflammation markers, leading to enhanced skin complexion and reduced signs of aging.
•Collagen Stimulation and Skin Elasticity:
Collagen is a key structural protein responsible for maintaining skin firmness and elasticity. Troxerutin has been found to promote collagen synthesis by activating fibroblasts, the cells responsible for producing collagen in the skin. This stimulation of collagen production can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging skin.
•Anti-Pigmentation Properties:
Hyperpigmentation, such as age spots and melasma, can be a significant concern for individuals seeking a more even skin tone. Troxerutin has been investigated for its inhibitory effects on melanin synthesis, offering a potential solution for reducing unwanted pigmentary concerns.
•Sun Protection:
UV radiation is a leading cause of skin damage, premature aging, and the development of skin cancers. Troxerutin has shown promising effects as an adjunctive ingredient in sunscreens and sun protection products.
•Antiglycosylation:
High sugar and high pressure, poor lifestyle habits and excessive light exposure can lead to glycation of the skin, causing wrinkles and fine lines. Glycosylation has also been shown to activate inflammatory pathways throughout the body, exacerbating inflammatory skin conditions such as acne, eczema and rosacea. It’s important to slow down the skin’s glycation response by protecting it from UV rays and blue light. Troxerutin’s ability to inhibit early glycosylation of albumin is comparable to that of AGs. Prevention of glycosylation not only reduces glycosylation modification of proteins at an early stage, but also contributes to the reduction of the total AGEs load in the body. Troxerutin inhibited AGEs in a dose-dependent way. Troxerutin has high anti-glycation activity.

Troxerutin scavenges free radicals and protects cells from oxidative stress-induced damage. It has been found that when cells are exposed to blue light, reactive oxygen radicals are generated in the mitochondria, and these highly reactive oxygen radicals can damage mitochondria and DNA. Troxerutin protects against blue light by absorbing blue light and reducing the damage caused by blue light to cells. For the blue light with lower energy above 450nm, the transmittance rate of troxerutin can be as high as 90% in order to maintain the normal physiological rhythm of the skin.
In the cosmetic industry, troxerutin is a potent antioxidant with excellent free radical scavenging ability and good antioxidant effects. As one of the derivatives of rutin, Troxerutin not only inherits the bioactivity of rutin, but also its water solubility is better than that of rutin, which makes it easy to be formulated into cosmetics. As a cosmetic raw material, troxerutin is also widely used in sunscreen cosmetics.
