Glycyrrhizic Flavone
Glycyrrhizic Flavone, also called Licorice flavonoids, are natural whitening agents extracted from a specific variety of licorice.Licorice contains phytocompounds viz., glycyrrhizin, glabridin, and others that could be broadly categorized as triterpene glycosides and flavonoids. Glycyrrhizic Flavone can inhibit the activity of tyrosinase, as well as dopachrome interconversion and DHICA oxidase. They are a fast, efficient and green whitening and freckle-removing cosmetic additive.
Licorice flavonoids can lighten the melanin on the skin, and can inhibit the activity of tyrosinase, thereby lightening spots and having the effect of whitening and spot-lightening.
Licorice flavonoids can eliminate oxygen free radicals, have an antioxidant effect, and can delay skin aging. As an antioxidant, licorice flavonoids are increasingly used in the food additive field. It is used in fats, fried foods, pickled fish, meat products, biscuits, instant noodles, oily foods, etc. It is also widely used in dairy foods, meat foods, baked foods, pasta foods, aquatic products, various beverages, seasoning foods, etc.
Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma is the most frequently prescribed natural medicine in China and has been used for more than 2,000 years. The flavonoids of licorice have garnered considerable attention in recent decades due to their structural diversity and myriad pharmacological effects, especially as novel therapeutic agents against inflammation and cancer.
Licorice flavonoids are also widely used in the cosmetics field, especially in whitening and freckle removal products. Due to its significant whitening and freckle removal effects, licorice flavonoids have good development prospects in the cosmetics (skin care products) market.

Cosmetics containing licorice flavonoids have strong antibacterial and bactericidal capabilities. It can alleviate the scarring or non-scarring pigmentation left after skin damage. Its inhibitory effect on tyrosinase activity is stronger than that of arbutin, kojic acid, Vc and hydroquinone. It can also inhibit the activities of dopa tautomase and DHICA oxidase. It has rapid and efficient whitening effects. It has a similar ability to scavenge oxygen free radicals as SOD (superoxide dismutase). It has an antioxidant free radical capacity similar to that of vitamin E.
