Polyquaternium-10 (PQ-10) is a high-performance cationic cellulose-based polymer. Derived from natural cellulose and modified through quaternization, it combines the mildness of natural origins with the versatility brought by advanced technology. Its functional realization is based on ionic attraction: the positively charged quaternary ammonium groups in PQ-10 molecules generate strong electrostatic adsorption with the negatively charged sites on the surface of hair (keratin) and skin. This strong substantivity ensures that the polymer is not easily washed off or rubbed away. After adsorption, PQ-10 molecules arrange in an orderly manner, forming a uniform flexible film on the surface. This film fills in gaps between hair cuticles, smooths tiny protrusions on the skin's stratum corneum, and reduces friction to achieve smoothness. At the same time, the hydrophilic groups on the molecular chain can actively capture water molecules in the environment, forming a "moisture reserve layer" inside the film, which continuously supplements moisture to hair and skin, realizing long-lasting moisturization and conditioning.
