N-Methyl-2-Pyrrolidone
N-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone is a typical polar aprotic solvent. At room temperature, it appears as a colorless, transparent liquid with a slight ammonia odor. It has an extremely strong solvating ability, being completely miscible with water, ethanol, ether, and most organic solvents. It can easily dissolve difficult-to-dissolve substances such as resins, polymers, and inorganic salts. Additionally, it has a high boiling point of 202°C and very low vapor pressure at room temperature, making it less volatile and less prone to loss during use. It remains stable below 150°C and is compatible with most metals and plastics. Compared to traditional toxic solvents, it has lower acute toxicity, making it a preferred solvent in industrial applications.
In practical applications, NMP functions across multiple key industries: in the electronics and new energy sector, it serves as the core solvent for lithium battery electrode slurry, aiding in the uniform mixing of binders and positive/negative electrode powders, and is also used for cleaning semiconductors and circuit boards;
In the chemical materials sector, it is used in the synthesis and processing of high-performance polymers such as polyimide, and can efficiently extract aromatics from petroleum or target products from pharmaceutical reaction solutions; in the pharmaceutical and pesticide sector, it is an ideal reaction medium for drug synthesis, and is also used in pesticide formulation to enhance efficacy, while in coatings and inks, it improves product adhesion and leveling.
